World of Warcraft Wednesday: Blood Elves Or: These Elves Used to be High, Man….

Look at me! I’m a pretty pretty princess!!

Seriously though, as far as these things go, the Blood Elves are a welcome addition to the World of Warcraft experience. After all, the former High Elves have a deep and involved history in the backstory, their introduction story is as good as any of the ones for the main race, and it finally allows you to play a Horde character that doesn’t make you want to punch a hole in your monitor. Even their main city, which is completely confusing when you first arrive in it, is clean, pretty, and once you figure your way around quite useful.

The problem is that the whole Blood Elf clan is disjointed. The quests aren’t as well connected as the Draenei ones. And even to get out of the Blood Elf zones you need to teleport to Undercity or risk traveling throught the Plaguelands, which is certain death. Plus they really don’t fit in with the Horde, which is both their advantage and disadvantage.

All that said, Blood Elves are fun. The new Horde Paladins are ok, but nothing particularily spectacular. The Blood Elf mount, an oversized chicken, is kind of the Horde answer to the Gnome robo-chicken. I don’t see it being particularily highly sought after.

But still…Very pretty.
